Jairam Lingappa MDExtensive epidemiologic evidence supports the hypothesis that genital herpes (HSV-2) promotes HIV-1 acquisition and transmission. However, recent clinical trials suggest a more complex perspective. We will review the current understanding of the relationship between these viruses and opportunities to exploit this relationship to help prevent and manage HIV-1.
